This is my space for writing about tech-related topics that I find interesting. It allows me to share the things I have learned with the world.
In Elixir, contexts are modules that group related functions together based on the domain of the application being built. They define a clear public API for interacting with different parts of the application, promoting organization and encapsulation...
In this post, I am going to take a look at Ecto, a data mapping and database query library designed to provide seamless integration between Elixir code and database operations and compare it to Ruby on Rail's ActiveRecord. Ecto and ActiveRecord are b...
This is a short post on how to create an empty Phoenix application using the Phoenix framework, which is a popular web development framework in the Elixir ecosystem similar to Ruby on Rails. By following the steps outlined below, you will set up a ne...
In a previous post, I did a deep dive into Elixir processes (see post #24) which are the lowest-level concurrency primitives in Elixir, but it’s pretty rare to use them directly. Instead, you will use libraries that let you build processes without wo...
In Elixir, a process is a lightweight concurrent computation unit that runs independently of other processes. These processes are not operating system processes but are virtual processes managed by the Erlang Virtual Machine (BEAM). Elixir Processes ...
I am going to start this post with a bold claim: "Elixir boasts one of the most advanced concurrency models in modern programming languages!" Yup, that's right! But you may have already heard about Elixir's reputation for effortlessly scaling across ...
Recursion in Elixir is a programming technique where a function calls itself either directly or indirectly to solve a problem. Elixir is well-suited for recursion due to its tail-call optimization (more about this below), which prevents stack overflo...
In Elixir, function overloading can be achieved through both pattern matching and defining functions with different numbers of arguments (arities). In this post, we are going to take a closer look at the function overloading via pattern matching. Ple...
In Elixir, a guard in a function is a special clause that allows you to add additional conditions to the function definition. Guards are used to apply constraints or filters to the function arguments before the function is executed. Guards are denote...
